New Design - CTR Yellowbird
This was one those cars for me growing up. All you other children of the 80s know what I'm talking about - the Lamborghini Countach (parked in front of a sunset, of course) poster hanging on your bedroom wall. The Ruf CTR Yellowbird has everything you love about 911s and then some. It's pretty much a 911 on crack...mere steroids aren't enough to accurately describe this car.
This was at a time when tuners were really beginning to refine their ability to build reliable, big power motors. Suspension tuning, tire technology and aerodynamics had a way to go though. So basically what you got with the Yellowbird was a pretty typical 911 (weighing in at a svelte 2,800 lbs.) with a 469hp twin-turbo motor. 911 Turbos of this era (referred to as 930s) were considered a fairly scary ride at the time; known for snap-oversteer with little to no warning. You could very easily end up facing the wrong direction - or worse. The CTR multiplied that fear by several factors. A complete monster. Total overkill that just hadn't been seen at the time. Top speed 211mph.
I could write way more about this car and Ruf in general, but a simple Wikipedia search will yield any information you could possibly want to know, so I'll leave you with a video.
Enjoy, and go grab the shirt in the Shop.
